How we spend the money

A substantial percentage of our expenditure relates to staff costs and training - in fact 84%. This is hardly surprising bearing in mind the quality of the services we provide and our commitment to one-to-one care for every child.

Tŷ Hafan carer and childThe hospice operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 48 weeks of the year.

Tŷ Hafan spends £37,000 a year on cleaning and laundry and £38,000 on catering.

Although we have a wonderful purpose-built building, we do have to maintain it to the highest standards, particularly in terms of health and safety. We spend £71,000 on maintenance of both the building and the grounds and have a planned programme of refurbishment work to keep it protected against the elements.

Inevitably we have the usual household bills: telephone £4,500; gas £7,000, electricity £14,500 and water rates £3,000.

It may initially sound very dull for our donors to contribute, for example, to our electricity bill, but without this we could not use important medical equipment vital to our children's comfort. They might well miss the TV, too.
