Today marks the start of a busy Children’s Hospice Week, the one week of the year when there is a sustained focus on the work of all 54 children’s hospices throughout the UK, including Tŷ Hafan and Tŷ Gobaith in Conwy, north Wales.

Tomorrow (Tuesday 21 June) we will be holding a party for the children with life-shortening conditions in the beautiful grounds of our hospice by the sea in Sully, just outside Cardiff. Wednesday promises to be a packed day! From 10am until 1pm, our Public Affairs team will be holding an awareness raising session, in partnership with Conwy-based Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospice, at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay. Our team will be on hand from 10am to 1pm to share information with Members of the Senedd and their staff about our work, and in particular, the importance of short break stays for children with life-shortening conditions and their families across Wales.

Lunchtime our Community Fundraising team will be hosting a lunch at Glamorgan Cricket Club where guests will be invited to pledge donations to support our work. Our lovely Tŷ Hafan branded van, as supplied by our friends at EuroCommercials, will also be making a starring appearance.

During the afternoon we are very much looking forward to being visited by Francesca Lennon, an incredible nurse who is cycling around all 54 children’s hospices in the UK to raise awareness of the amazing work done.

Also, throughout the day, colleagues from our Legacy team will be holding sessions in our grounds explaining how easy it is for you to be a lifeline by leaving a gift in your will for Tŷ Hafan.

On Thursday, we will be focusing on our exciting Charity Shop Challenge, a new initiative we are undertaking throughout the whole week in partnership with our friends at the Principality Building Society.

Also on Thursday, we will have a family Stay and Play hub in a marquee in the grounds of our hospice. That evening, and also in the marquee, we will be holding Squadfest, an always lively get together of some truly amazing young adults who have ’transitioned’ from Tŷ Hafan.

Friday will see our regular Family Friday story – which this week will be the story of how Matt Evans and a number of other Tŷ Hafan Dads and friends are getting ready to attempt to take on their most extreme fundraising challenge yet – the #10nTaff.

On Saturday we will share some of the highlights of the activities undertaken by our friends in Morrisons stores who are fundraising for us as part of our partnership with Together For Short Lives.

Also on Saturday, we will hold our annual Tŷ Hafan Memorial Service, a private and deeply personal special commemorative event for our bereaved families.

And finally, on Sunday, hundreds of our dedicated and hardworking volunteers will get together to enjoy a simple tea party we are hosting to say thank you to them for what they do for us.

As you can see, this week is a busy week for us! But of course every week is a busy week for us and every pound that you can spare to support our work will make a huge difference to children with life-shortening conditions and what we are able to do for them and their families in Wales.

So please donate what you can and please share your support on social media – we simply cannot do what we do without you.
