Almost everyone. We encourage people from all walks of life to volunteer because we will always aim to find a volunteering role that’s right for you.
No. To volunteer at the hospice you will need to be aged 18 or over, to volunteer at one of our events you need to be aged 16 or over, and to help at one of our shops you will need to be aged 14 or over.
That’s completely up to you. Some people regularly volunteer for a couple of hours a week. Some people help at one-off events. Others are only available to support us in the school holidays. Whatever time you can give, we’ll do our utmost to make it enjoyable and rewarding.
How do I become a volunteer?
Becoming a volunteer in team Tŷ Hafan couldn't be easier. Simply search through our current volunteering opportunities.
If you will be regularly volunteering with Tŷ Hafan, we do ask you provide details of two referees. We don't need to obtain references for our those volunteering on our event days or corporate volunteers.
Will I need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, formerly CRB) check?
Tŷ Hafan is committed to the safeguarding of all employees, workers, volunteers and service users, as well as the Tŷ Hafan brand and other interests of Tŷ Hafan. It's for this reason we do sometimes need to carry out DBS checks. These checks usually only apply to volunteer roles based on the hospice site, but you can check the role description if you're not sure.
Volunteering for Tŷ Hafan will not affect your Job Seekers Allowance as long as you are still actively seek and are available to work. You should inform your work coach that you're volunteering with us and discuss them why you're volunteering and what you hope to achieve from it.
Volunteering does not usually affect you receiving Employment and Support Allowance, but you should inform the Department of Work and Pensions.
