Organising your own cycling challenge or taking part in an organised event is a brilliant way to raise money for Tŷ Hafan and experience amazing thrills on the open road.

VELOTHON Wales offers two courses on completely closed roads – a 110km course with 940 metres of total elevation and a challenging 140km course, which incorporates two famous climbs: "Caerphilly Mountain" and "The Tumble” with a total elevation of 1,822 metres.
If you're up for a challenge then this is the course for you! Up to 15,000 riders will be relishing the enjoyment and competition together and when you cross that finish line you’ll experience a real sense of achievement.
Riders will leave Cardiff to the east, heading through Newport and Usk, before entering the Brecon Beacons National Park, home of the legendary Tumble climb - a highlight of the route! - and home to Velothon Wales' "King and Queen of the Mountains Challenge". The route then heads south via Pontypool and Newbridge on its way to Caerphilly for one final climb up the stunning Caerphilly mountain, before finishing with a fast descent towards the finish line, in the heart of Cardiff city centre.
The organisers of this years event want it to appeal to everyone no matter what your goal or level of fitness is! 2017 will therefore see the introduction of a slightly shorter course, which will follow the same route, but with half the climbing!

overseas cycle challenges
Fancy cycling through an exotic country such as Costa Rica, India or Vietnam?
Many companies such as Global Adventure Challenges and Sports Tours International give you the opportunity to do this and raise money for Tŷ Hafan. You can find information about lots of these challenges in our events calendar.
If you find a cycle challenge you want to take on, please contact us before you book your place by filling in our online fundraising enquiry form.
Our Fundraising team will then get in touch with you to discuss how we can make sure your cycle raises as much money as possible and in the best way for Tŷ Hafan.
choose to self fund your challenge
Companies that organise cycle challenges are likely to give you options on how to pay for your challenge. We recommend you choose to self-fund your challenge, as the money you raise will go directly to Tŷ Hafan, allowing us to put it to work immediately.
