Dragon
After a great deal of thought and consideration we have decided to close the Dragon project from 1 December 2011. Sadly, we are unable to display the completed blankets due to the costs and logistics involved.
We understand that many people will be very disappointed not to see the project completed and displayed after all their hard work, but in these difficult economic times we must focus our efforts on projects which raise money in a more efficient and cost-effective way. Last year, another 58 families turned to Tŷ Hafan for help, and for each one we need to find another £15,000 to give them support they need.
Despite the many efforts made to promote the Dragon project by community fundraisers, at craft fairs, the Royal Welsh Show, the National Eisteddfod and in the media over seven years, just 375 of the 1,234 blankets required have been completed. The Dragon project has also raised nearly £24,500 from entry fees, sponsorship and donations, which have been used to provide comfort, care and support to life-limited children and their families across Wales.
We send a huge thank you to everyone who has taken part, with special thanks to the assemblers who have spent many hours sewing the squares together into blankets.
The blankets we have received will be put to very good use. Many will be donated to organisations working for homeless or vulnerable people. The blanket made up of squares designed by Welsh celebrities will be auctioned to raise further funds for Tŷ Hafan.
Because we are unable to complete the project, we are willing to offer a return of any entry fees paid before 1 October 2009 to participants who made a complete blanket. If this applies to you and you would like a refund, please email Helen Young at askfundraising@tyhafan.org or call 029 2067 2060 by 1 December 2011.
We are all very disappointed that the project cannot run to its conclusion and hope you can appreciate how difficult this decision has been for us to make.
On behalf of all the children and families, we thank everyone for their hard work and support.
Thanks to everyone who has taken part in Ty Hafan's dragon project. We have received some amazing pieces of textile work and everyone should be really proud of the blankets they have helped to create.
