Frequently asked questions
Here are the answers to questions which are often asked by people organising their own fundraising events.
We’ve got an idea for a fundraising event. Can Tŷ Hafan help us organise it?
We’ll be pleased to help by providing information, advice and fundraising materials, which should help you when you organise your event. Visit our downloadable resources to see what we can offer.
Can someone from Tŷ Hafan come to our event?
We’ll be happy to send along a representative to say a few words of thanks for all your hard work and effort, but we would appreciate at least a week’s notice, so please let us know as soon as you can. At busy times of the year, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, it may not always be possible to send someone.
Can Tŷ Hafan provide people to help out at our event?
We have a number of volunteers that we could approach on your behalf but there is no guarantee they would be available or willing to get involved. Why not get a group of family and friends together and share out the tasks between them? Or, if you’re in work, ask some of your colleagues to help. Volunteering is a great way for companies to increase employee satisfaction and to meet their corporate social responsibilities.
Can we invite the children & young people from Tŷ Hafan to attend our event?
As a rule, we do not invite the children, young people and families to attend fundraising events. Some events and venues are not suitable or accessible for children with limited mobility and communication skills. We also wish to avoid at all costs a family becoming the focus of unwanted attention which could make them feel awkward or embarrassed.
Can we use the Tŷ Hafan logo to promote our event?
We can provide the logo with guidelines for use on your promotional materials. Alternatively we can provide A3 & A4 blank posters, blank flyers and blank tickets/ invites which the logo is already printed on. You can request the logo by completing the online contact form and download the posters, flyers and tickets here (the A3 poster is not available to be downloaded).
What about advertising?
We can put it on “Your events” including your contact details and a link to your website if you have one. We have a pre-planned promotion schedule for our own events and campaigns, which means that we are not able to put your event on the homepage or promote or advertise it in any other way.
Can Tŷ Hafan contact the local press to promote our event?
The press is always looking for a “local” angle, so the best chance of getting them to publicise your event is to contact them yourself. Visit our downloadable resources page to obtain sample press releases and details for your local newspapers and radio stations.
Can Tŷ Hafan sell tickets for our event?
We can put your event on our website, and include details of how to contact you to buy tickets, but we do not have the resources to sell tickets ourselves.
Can Tŷ Hafan promote our event to your supporters?
We can put it on our website, but owing to the number of events taking place, we are unable to promote any of them directly to our supporters.
Can Tŷ Hafan produce tickets, posters and flyers for our event?
We can provide the logo with guidelines for use on your promotional materials. Alternatively we can provide A3 & A4 blank posters, blank flyers and blank tickets/ invites which the logo is already printed on. You can request the logo by completing the online contact form and download the posters, flyers and tickets here (the A3 poster is not available to be downloaded).
Can we put up our posters in your shops?
We get many requests to display posters in our shops and in order to be fair to everyone, we’re not able to do so. We suggest you ask local retailers, the library, and community centre if they can display one.
Can Tŷ Hafan find a celebrity to attend our event?
It’s not easy to get celebrities, particularly high-profile ones, to attend local fundraising events. Contrary to popular belief, many charge an appearance fee, even for charities. Unfortunately we are not able to approach them on your behalf.
You may find that local celebrities, such as radio presenters or news readers, are more willing to help, especially if they have a personal connection to your area. Please ensure that when approaching celebrities, you make it clear that you are raising funds for Tŷ Hafan and are not approaching them officially on behalf of Tŷ Hafan.
I’ve written a book / recorded a CD in aid of Tŷ Hafan. Can you sell them in your shops? Can I put your logo on it?
We receive regular requests to sell books and CDs created especially for Tŷ Hafan and to be fair to everyone, we are unable to sell any or promote any to our supporters. Please contact us if you wish to use our logo on your product, as in some cases a Commercial Participator’s Agreement may be required.
Can Tŷ Hafan provide raffle prizes for our event?
As we do not have a ready supply of raffle prizes, we suggest you approach small local businesses. They are more likely to donate a prize than large national chains, especially if you offer to include their name in your publicity materials in return.
We can provide you with a letter of authority to confirm you are raising funds in aid of Tŷ Hafan, this will help when asking for raffle prizes.
We’d like the money we raise be used to buy something for the children. Is this possible?
You may be assured that every donation, whether large or small, will bring comfort, care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families.
If you are able to raise a minimum of £5,000 we can attribute your donation to one of our planned capital expenditure projects
Owing to the different accounting processes used and the additional costs and administration involved, we are not able to use donations of less than £5,000 for a specific purpose.
Please note:
• as we strive to maintain a homely environment at the hospice, no items purchased or donated may be marked with the name of the donor.
• we cannot use your donation for a project or purpose for which we have not identified a need.
Thank you for your support. If you have any further questions, please complete our online contact form.
