Tŷ Hafan aims to complete the head of the Dragon for Autumn 2010

Only 111 blankets left to go!

Imagine our very own Welsh dragon's head, the size of half a football pitch and made entirely of fabric squares 10" x 10". That's 23,904 squares!

How would you like to be part of an amazing project to complete the Dragon's head? We need just 111 white blankets (each of 48 squares) to complete the dragon's head by Autumn 2010. Your squares can have as many shades of white or as many different types of textile as you choose. However, it is important that you tell us if you are making squares so that we can keep a running total. Please apply by email or post for details.

So far, supporters across Wales, and beyond, have used their creative skills to make many wonderful blankets. Everyone of their blankets and squares will be encompassed within the final display to show the talent that the Welsh heritage has to offer.

We encourage you to be as creative as you like. We have had knitting, cross stitch, weaving, fabric painting, quilting, embroidery, patchwork itself, in fact ANY craft you can think of. ANYONE CAN TAKE PART!

48 squares will be joined together to make blankets, either by you or by our volunteers, to become a "jigsaw" piece of the Dragon's head.

These will then all be placed together to form the whole design. The Dragon's eye consists of four blankets (see illustration below)

You can apply as an individual, but as we now have only 111 white blankets to do, why not get together in your group or school and produce enough squares for a whole blanket (or more) to better represent yourselves in this epic project.

How to take part

Simply apply with your full details and the number of blankets you wish to make. To make an entire blanket you need to apply to make 48 squares. You can make less (minimum of 5 squares) and these will be assembled into blankets by our volunteers.

You will be issued with the white labels, a knitting/cross stitch pattern, a blanket layout pattern and sponsor forms.

We encourage all applicants to get sponsorship. Creating a page on www.justgiving.com is a very simple way to collect sponsorship money.
