Helen has been a solicitor for 26 years and member of the Senior Civil Service for 12 years, working in the public sector in Wales for most of her career. She is Deputy Director of Legal Services for the Welsh Government based in Cardiff, Diversity Champion for the Office of the First Minister and Cabinet Office within Welsh Government and oversees the Welsh Government's Trainee Solicitor Scheme.
Helen's legal career has seen her advising at the heart of government in Wales and she previously advised senior politicians in two of the largest local authorities in Wales. She is an experienced Board member and is used to working with boards and advising on governance and proprietary. Her skills will help the Tŷ Hafan Board in terms its stewardship role and the charity's statutory obligations. Helen has an honours degree in law, an MBA and has undertaken leadership training at the Harvard JFK School of Government.
Helen is passionate about public service delivery, equality and helping people to reach their potential having been a mentor to people from different backgrounds throughout her career.
Outside of work, Helen loves to travel with her husband, enjoying the prospect of seeing new places and meeting new people. Originally from Abertillery she has lived with her husband in Quakers Yard for many years. Her parents and extended family of adult step-children and seven step-grandchildren also help to keep her busy.
