How your family will benefit

Your life can probably be described as an emotional roller coaster. Nothing is ever static, the ground keeps shifting. You might feel like you are losing the ability to cope because of disturbed sleep, complex care regimes and the inability to have a normal family life. We understand and want to give you the chance to connect with your child in new ways, to have time with other siblings, to do normal things as a family – creating memories to treasure.

Often dealing with running a family is difficult, but include a life-limiting condition and some families may start to lose control. We will listen and help you tackle these daily battles, by working with you and liaising with existing professionals involved in your child's care.

Tŷ Hafan can also create some “me time” by providing short break care at the hospice. Mum and dad can recharge their batteries and relax, or perhaps go for that meal that’s been planned for months. It also allows you to be yourself again, instead of acting as the role of carer. It means you can spend more time with your other children too.

Sometimes your other children may help out with the care of their brother or sister, and may not have the time to spend with you and their friends. Tŷ Hafan can help by giving siblings time and space to be themselves and making them feel special.

Siblings and parents often welcome the opportunity to meet others whose experiences are similar. It helps to be able to share stories, to support each other and most importantly, to laugh and cry together. Tŷ Hafan has created support groups for mums, dads and siblings, which all have plenty of activities throughout the year to help develop friendships and ensure these dedicated families have some fun!
