Ieuan's Story

We were approached by Ieuan's consultant to see if we would like to go and visit Tŷ Hafan as the hospital would not be able to give the care that Tŷ Hafan could. We were devastated as we didn't really want to consider using a hospice but eventually we agreed to visit and have a guided tour. Yes, it all seemed very relaxing, but not the place for us or our special boy, but we agreed to go and stay for a week.

Monday afternoon came and the journey down in the ambulance was like a bad dream, we just couldn't believe where we were going, but, from the moment we arrived Kelly and Shirley were waiting for us. We took Ieuan into his room and it was like being in Disneyland, they had made his room so very special, exactly how he would have liked it and from then on we never looked back.

Everything was possible at Tŷ Hafan. There was never any negative comments, the nurses, the care team, the family support team, administration, housekeeping, gardeners, fundraisers, voluntary workers, activity staff, complementary therapist, cooks, maintanence, the fantasic building with beautiful gardens, everything and everyone involved with Tŷ Hafan made our most precious last two months and two days with our beautiful Ieuan possible.

We met some of life's very special people on this journey.

Kelly, Ieuan's link carer, looked after Ieuan as if she had known him all his life, he, and we, loved her. The pink theme, dancing and singing, glitz and glamour and the special care she gave Ieuan was unbelievable. He has left behind this wonderful dedicated young person to go on and look after more very special children.

Shirley, our Family Support Practitioner was with us every step of the way, helping us to face some very difficult challenges, which at times, were very difficult when you knew what we had to face.

Nicky, Ieuan's link nurse, was also so very special for the care and support she gave to Ieuan and us, always trying to make us smile. The day Ieuan flew away to be with the angels, Nicky and ALL the nursing staff were so professional, but still made it feel like home at this very sad time. We are so glad that we overcame our fears and allowed our special boy to spend his last month's at Tŷ Hafan, a magical place, we thank you all.

Ieuan never fulfilled his dream of going to Disneyland America, but we know that he thought Tŷ Hafan was the next best thing.

There are no words to describe the loss and the way we feel but there are living angels and they live at Tŷ Hafan. They are the dedicated team who looked after us and our most darling precious, beautiful boy Ieuan.

You are now all part of our lives and we will remember you forever,

Rosemary and Wayne Yendle, Louis and Benxxxx
