Record numbers take on the challenge

The Tŷ Hafan Taff Trail cycle challenge is a regular "must do" event on the Welsh cycling calendar and this year saw record numbers of entrants take on the 55 mile challenge starting from Brecon and finishing in Cardiff Bay.

Despite the wind and rain on Sunday 5 September, three hundred cyclists started out from Brecon while another one hundred and eighty opted for the 28 mile route starting at Merthyr Tydfil.

One of the 300 hundred eager full Taff cyclists was Dirty Sanchez and MTV star Matt Pritchard. He joined a few life-long friends and their team 'Muffin and the Mules' took on the full Taff Trail for Tŷ Hafan.

"I really enjoyed doing the Tŷ Hafan Taff Trail bike ride today. It's been a great day; 55 miles in the bag and some good laughs along the way and all for a great cause. The comfort, care and support provided to these kids and their families by Tŷ Hafan is much needed and I'm glad I've been able to help them" commented Pritch.

"The Taff Trail has become a very well established event for Tŷ Hafan over the last seven years" commented Helen Gibbons, Events Manager for the charity. "It's a great day out for keen cyclists as well as groups of friends who just want to take their time and have some fun.

"I would like to thank all participants and volunteers. Their help and involvement will provide comfort, care and support to hundreds of life-limited children, young people and their families across Wales. I would also like to thank Eversheds who have steadfastly sponsored the event since it started in 2003".

Spaces for the Challenge were filled up within a month of registration opening this year so teams are asked to submit their interest sooner rather than later for next year's event.
