Best charity partnership awardThursday 16 February 2012
The very successful and long standing charity partnership between GE Aviation Wales and Tŷ Hafan, has been recognised at a UK awards ceremony.
The Best Charity Partnership was awarded to the family hospice for young lives and the aircraft servicing company at the Together for Short Lives charity awards, which was held recently at The Paragon Hotel in Birmingham.
Together for Short Lives was formed last year when Children’s Hospices UK merged with the Association for Children’s Palliative Care to provide a national voice for its members comprising of over 40 children’s hospices throughout the UK, including Tŷ Hafan in South Wales.
The organisations faced some tough competition in their category but they were awarded for their great teamwork in staging the Welsh 3Peaks Challenge, one of the best known charity events to take place in Wales over the last thirteen years.
The Welsh 3Peaks Challenge tests the stamina of some of the fittest teams who climb Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan in a single day. Volunteers from GE Aviation Wales help coordinate the event logistics in partnership with Tŷ Hafan, including promoting the event to prospective teams, in addition to marshalling the course on the day.
The event usually reached capacity within four weeks of registration opening each year and has raised over £1 million for the hospice since it was first held in 1998.
“It is a tremendous honour to receive this award, along with GE Aviation Wales who have given us magnificent support over the years” commented Frank Ady from Tŷ Hafan.
“To be acknowledged in this way just as we have launched this year’s event is really timely and we are looking forward to another great day in June”
Adrian Button, Managing Director of GE Aviation Wales said: “We are absolutely delighted with this recognition. When we formed this partnership over a decade ago, we wanted to do something that would help benefit the hospice year after year.
“This award recognises the efforts of all those who volunteer their time to take part, coordinate and support the 3Peaks Challenge annually. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Tŷ Hafan to build on our partnership and help towards making a difference to the lives of young people in South Wales.”
This year’s Welsh 3Peaks Challenge takes place on Saturday 23 June.
