Team Dads success at Welsh 3PeaksThursday 28 June 2012
With three mountain peaks to climb in fifteen hours it was fortunate that the unseasonable summer weather more or less held off allowing the 80 teams taking part in the GE Aviation Wales 3Peaks event to accomplish their tough challenge.
Amongst those taking part were Sean Ward, Andrew Davies, Anthony Boggis and team captain Hywel Tyler who all share the experience of spending time, with their families at Tŷ Hafan, with their life-limited child.
Having managed to get in one or two training sessions in the weeks leading up to the event the intrepid foursome travelled up to Snowdon the day before to be ready to start the first climb up Snowdon at 04.00 hrs on Saturday 23 June. Care workers from Tŷ Hafan, Paul Fisher and Dan Notley completed the team by being the all important drivers and catering managers.

“The guys had a really good couple of days” commented Paul Fisher who, along with Dan also organised the training sessions, transport and generally kept everything running smoothly. “There was a tremendous team spirit amongst all of us but I think it was especially beneficial for the dads to be part of the event as a team. They all share a strong common bond and are able to talk about their particular experiences in caring for their life-limited children with each other which is hugely beneficial for them”
Since first being held in 2000 the GE Aviation Wales sponsored event has raised well over £1 million pounds to help Tŷ Hafan provide care and support for the increasing number of life-limited children, young people and their families from across Wales being referred to its services.
