Welsh Paralympic cyclist Mark Colbourne will join hundreds of fundraisers for Tŷ Hafan’s popular 52-mile Taff Trail Cycle Challenge on Sunday 7 September.
Now in its 12th year, the GVA sponsored challenge, has become a highlight of the cycling event calendar, attracting participants from every corner of Wales as well as from over the bridge.
Cyclists will set off from Brecon, enjoying some of Wales’ most picturesque scenery before receiving a heroes welcome at the finish line at Bute Park in Cardiff.
Participants can also take part in the Half Taff challenge; a slightly shorter route of 26 miles starting in Merthyr Tydfil.
Mark Colbourne MBE, an avid supporter of Tŷ Hafan, said: “I can’t wait to join hundreds of keen cyclists and families in September, who will all be excited to participate in the Tŷ Hafan Taff Trail Cycle Challenge to raise vital funds for this amazing organisation”.
This great day out offers the opportunity for friends, family or work colleagues to get together in teams of four to cycle one of the most spectacular routes in Wales whilst raising vital and much needed funds for Tŷ Hafan to help make sure it can keep providing care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families from across Wales.
Mair Jeffreys, Marketing and Events officer at Tŷ Hafan, said: “After the long summer months, what better way to welcome in the autumn than by gearing up for a cycling challenge, taking in some of the most glorious sights south Wales has to offer along the way?
“We need to raise £3.7m each year to provide our services; by taking part in the Taff Trail Cycle Challenge participants will be making a difference to support our work with life-limited children, young people and their families from across Wales.”
An event on this scale wouldn’t be able to go ahead without dedicated marshals, so if the challenge isn’t for you but you would still like to get involved, you can volunteer to marshal at the event.
Entry is just £10 per cyclist. Teams cycling the Full Taff Challenge are asked to raise £500 in sponsorship and those cycling the Half Taff need to raise £300.
