A family supported by Tŷ Hafan helped with the charity’s summer raffle draw at the hospice last week.
Hannah Brookes from Newport picked 12 lucky winners from across Wales, who have scooped fantastic prizes including £3,000, £2,000 and £50 vouchers.
Hannah’s five-year-old son Dylan was referred to Tŷ Hafan in 2010. He was born prematurely at 30 weeks and suffered a collapsed lung at seven days old. A brain scan revealed Dylan had cysts on the brain and he was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Hannah said: “He was about 11 months old when he was referred to Tŷ Hafan and he’s been coming ever since. All Tŷ Hafan’s support, especially the emotional support and short break care, has made such a difference to our lives.
“They help the whole family and his siblings love visiting Tŷ Hafan as well – especially now the new play area is up and running. It’s amazing to hear how much the raffle has raised for Tŷ Hafan and we were thrilled to have helped with the raffle draw. It’s nice to give something back after all they’ve done for us.”
Tŷ Hafan’s raffle, which runs bi-annually, raises more than £100,000 for the charity each year.
Tŷ Hafan also runs the largest hospice lottery in the UK and the income it generates makes a significant contribution towards £3.7 million needed each year to provide its care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families from across Wales.
