help children like milo by playing tŷ hafan’s lottery

Milo Drakeley from Ceredigion was referred to Tŷ Hafan, the family hospice for young lives, when he was two years old.

For his parents Claire and Paul, Tŷ Hafan is a lifeline which provides vital emotional support as well as a break from constant sleepless nights.

Six-year-old Milo has Cerebral Palsy and also suffers with a condition which means he has problems swallowing. It means the couple, who also have a three-year-old daughter, Esme, have to work through the night ensuring Milo’s airways are clear, helping him clear saliva up to 50 times.

“When Milo stays at Tŷ Hafan, it means we can fall asleep without worrying,” said Mrs Drakeley.

“Without Ty Hafan, our lives would be impossible, which is why their help and support is invaluable. We don’t know what we’d do without it.”

The support that Tŷ Hafan provides has many facets, including short break care, end-of-life-care and bereavement services, family support, complementary therapy, music therapy, play and physiotherapy, all of which can be delivered in the family home.

Milo, who benefits greatly from the charity’s outreach services, is one of 260 life-limited children currently supported by Tŷ Hafan.

One of the main sources of income for the charity is its Crackerjackpot lottery. More than 40,000 people across Wales play the lottery and Tŷ Hafan has hired a new canvasser in Ceredigion to recruit new members.

John Mladenovic, Tŷ Hafan’s Lottery General Manager, said “Children like Milo benefit from short-break care, emotional support and a range of therapies in their family home thanks to people supporting Tŷ Hafan. Our new canvasser has been tasked with spreading the word about Tŷ Hafan’s services in the hope that we can gain new lottery members in the area.”

Crackerjackpot has 81 guaranteed weekly prizes, including a £2,000 weekly jackpot, as well as the rollover which increases by £500 a week up to a maximum of £12,000.

The lottery provides a vital source of reliable income for Tŷ Hafan, raising over £1.1 million each year towards the cost of the charity’s care services.

The new canvasser, Chris Harris, will be starting his role in Aberystwyth, Lampeter, Tregaron and Aberaeron. To join Tŷ Hafan’s Crackerjackpot lottery please visit lottery.tyhafan.org or call 0290 20530 2300.
