“Ron the Book Man”

Ron

Meet Ron. Ron joined the Tŷ Hafan Cwmbran Shop 10 years ago. Previously, he sorted books for Oxfam and St Anne’s Hospice.

As well as spending two afternoons a week either sorting or merchandising our books, he is a keen model railway enthusiast and has taken several computer courses. He takes pride in regularly skyping friends and family.

He’s a fab chap, he regularly knows the answers to odd questions that the team and I are constantly throwing his way. I personally had an awkward moment a while back when he asked me, with a perfectly straight face, what the ’50 Shades of Grey’ books were about…….

He has four daughters and one son, who in turn have 12 grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. From time-to-time his younger sister will come to stay and nag him a bit. He seems very keen to get his remote control back when she’s gone home again. He enjoys his home comforts, I just hope I do when I’m 94 ½.

We urgently need volunteers to help out at our 30 shops across Wales. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, put old ones to use, meet lots of great people and gain valuable work experience.

Many of our volunteers have gained paid employment with us and with other companies, it is a great way of adding some really useful skills to your C.V. Plus, by donating a bit of your time and energy to Tŷ Hafan, you’ll help us provide comfort, care and support to more children and young people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
