Tŷ Hafan held its most successful Rainbow Run to date in Swansea on Saturday after more than 1,700 colourful fundraisers took part to raise vital funds for the charity.
An incredible £80,000 is expected to be raised from the event, which saw participants showered in multi-coloured powdered paint during the 5K fun run on the beach.
Mair Kinsey, Marketing and Events Officer at Tŷ Hafan, said: “We can’t thank each participant enough for helping to make Saturday’s event a record breaker for us. This was our sixth Rainbow Run and it exceeded all expectations in terms of numbers.
“Every penny raised will help life-limited children and their families make the most of the time they have left together. We would also like to thank our amazing volunteers and our incredible sponsors for making the event possible.”
One of the colourful characters who took part was 69-year-old Rod Hughes from Neath. He said: “I’m an elderly gentleman of nearly 70 and it was the first fun run I’ve done since having a serious injury six years ago.
“It was a wonderful event – I’m still coming down from how amazing it made me feel! My bathroom was all multi-coloured afterwards but it didn’t matter one bit. Tŷ Hafan is a wonderful charity and I can’t wait to take part in the next one.”
Lisa Williams, mum to four-year-old Macsen, spoke on stage about Tŷ Hafan’s support before the event started.
Macsen from Birchgrove is one of 257 life-limited children benefitting from Tŷ Hafan’s care and support.
Lisa said: “When our paediatrician referred us to Tŷ Hafan we were a bit panicked at first. We came up for the day and we were really surprised. I think we soon realised we found our safety net.”
"It would be impossible for us to do so many things without Tŷ Hafan – things that seem so simple for other families. Every time we leave Tŷ Hafan, we always say how nice it was to be normal again."
Tŷ Hafan would like to thank Barclays, Padda Care, Peter Lynne & Partners Solicitors, South Wales Wood, TLC and Ajuda Events for sponsoring the event and Princes Gate and 9 Bar for donating water and energy bars.
