Leigh Halfpenny delivers toys for Christmas

Hundreds of gifts, donated by generous St David’s Cardiff shoppers, were delivered to children’s charity Tŷ Hafan this week by a very special guest, Welsh International star, and charity ambassador, Leigh Halfpenny.

The delivery of more than 500 gifts, including toys from the likes of Hamleys, Lego and Disney, were delivered by a team of festive helpers, who were accompanied by Leigh today, giving the children an extra special Christmas surprise.

Running until 22 December, the Toy Appeal is supporting twenty charities across South Wales, and nearly 6,000 gifts have been donated so far. Throughout the campaign, charities will receive thousands of toys to spread a little festive cheer to children and families who need it most.

As he left the hospice following the delivery, Leigh Halfpenny said: “It was amazing to see the children’s faces and the excitement when they saw the toys arriving. They were all looking in the boxes to see what they would like to play with. It was a special thing to be part of in the run-up to Christmas.

“It’s always great to be back at Tŷ Hafan; I’m proud to be an ambassador for the charity. The families are amazing and the staff do an amazing job.”

Tŷ Hafan offers care, comfort and support for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families across Wales, and is focused on making sure a short life is a full life, full of magical moments and precious memories.

Steven Madeley, General Manager for St David’s, said: “Tŷ Hafan provides invaluable care to families across South Wales and beyond, and we are absolutely thrilled to welcome Leigh to today’s delivery. Having Leigh’s support, and seeing the unwavering generosity of our shoppers truly brings the spirit of Christmas – we are well on our way to surpass the amount of last year’s donations, it’s very overwhelming to see so many people paying it forward and bringing fantastic gifts to the centre every day.”
