incredible families

Welcome to our CEO's most recent blog post all about what went on at Tŷ Hafan last week!

One of our hospice dads, Ibrahima, was on a BBC2 documentary about the difficult decision faced by him and the medical ethics team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I would like to thank all the staff who have supported the family since their arrival in Cardiff.

This social and emotional care is part of the holistic care we provide to our families, and this has enabled the family to settle in Cardiff, continue to receive the medical care they need and even start primary school. The publicity Ibrahima wanted was supported by the care team, but also the media team who work hard to protect families from the exposure their stories can bring, while making sure the important media coverage is delivered responsibly. Ibrahima would like to raise £200k for Tŷ Hafan and GOSH, while also raising awareness of the work the charities do.

Izzy and her mum Tracy have also been in the media as part of Izzy’s bucket list challenge. Following the support from Ruth Jones and the cast of Gavin and Stacey, Tracy organised Izzyfest, a festival of music, which 1,200 people attended and raised £14k for Tŷ Hafan and the Teenage Cancer Trust. Again, this involved the community and hospice care teams and the community fundraising team working together and supporting the family.

We are so privileged to be part of families’ journeys and inspired by the resilience and determination of parents, who, with our support and by working together, make the most of the time available.
