barry island new year's day dip 2020
Jump in to the New Year with a dip
The annual Barry Island New Years Day dip has been going for 35 years, originally organised by the Whitmore Bay lifeguards in 1984 and growing in size ever since. January 01 2020 at 12:30pm will mark it's 36 year and this will be Tŷ Hafan, the Children's hospice in Wales second year managing this event.
We hope we can continue to grow this wonderful event, whilst raising invaluable funds for the hospice.

With 20 years under our belt and with over 800 children having used the hospice, it's no surprise that some of the facilities are looking a little tired. So to ensure longevity of the hospice, we are embarking on a refurbishment project that starts in January 2020 that will help Tŷ Hafan be a hospice fit for the future. The refurbishment project will mean that our families can continue to make precious memories in the most comfortable and homely place possible.
Taking a dip into cold water on New Years Day takes courage and for that you might find that your friends, family, colleagues or community groups may sponsor you to do this. If you would like to get sponsored and help us create a hospice fit for the future then please download a sponsor form here.
The event is open to 5+ years of age – 5-8 year old's must be accompanied by an adult with a ratio of 1:1 and those 9-16 must be accompanied by an adult with a ratio of 1:2.
Registration opens from 10:00am with the dip commencing at 12:30pm with a warm up at 12:20pm.
Only those that have not received their wristbands in the post will need to come to registration.
Please note the event has moved to the Eastern Shelter of the promenade
