Hi, I'm Megan from Puffin Produce.
It’s never easy choosing a charity to support as a brand - but without a doubt, the easiest choice we've ever made is supporting Tŷ Hafan.
For Blas y Tir, our Welsh fresh produce brand synonymous with tasty Welsh potatoes, famous Pembrokeshire Early Potatoes and family values, it was the perfect fit.
From the initial discussion in the office to talking to our loyal Welsh customers, who so readily donated to Tŷ Hafan, it was clear that the work of the charity touches every corner of Wales and is greatly valued by all. Our biggest challenge was working out how to raise as much money as possible for this amazing cause. Here's how we raised enough money to pay for a whole day of care at the hospice.
A plan of action was put together, with key events including the Blas y Tir Charity Ball, the Tŷ Hafan 3 Welsh Peaks Challenge and the Pembrokeshire County Show.
The local community came out in force to attend the Blas y Tir ball in aid of Tŷ Hafan, with a huge amount of donations for the charity auction and a great turnout for the evening. We ate, we donated, we danced…and we raised £6,814!
Our next event was the Tŷ Hafan Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge. As Andy, Paul, Lucy and I headed off on our ascent of Snowdon at 4:20am, I have to admit that we hadn’t done enough training, probably hadn’t thought the whole challenge through properly and weren’t entirely sure what we’d let ourselves in for. Wow, what a day! Gruelling, continuous, exhausting, amazing, thrilling, motivating and one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. We raised £3,786 in total.
At the Pembrokeshire County Show, as well as doing the usual sampling and talking to our lovely Welsh customers about our delicious Welsh produce, we also made sure people had a chance to donate to Tŷ Hafan. We invited face painters to the stand to raise money, had the Scarlets rugby team drop by to talk to fans and sign items, and encouraged our farming community to donate to Tŷ Hafan while enjoying the events at the show. We raised an extra £400 in total.
Not only did we have fun raising money for Tŷ Hafan, but we also had the pleasure of presenting a cheque to the value of £11,000, paying for a whole day's care at Tŷ Hafan – amazing!
