It’s been well over a year now since we at Costain VINCI were first approached by Tŷ Hafan and the ‘Memorial Garden’ project was discussed.
In the time since the meeting, we have taken on many ideas and concepts and, along with our construction and design partners, created the outline of a new garden that will provide more capacity for memorial events at the hospice and therapeutic and social features for families and hospice staff to enjoy.
During the summer, we have constructed a wheelchair race-track as well as building a new perimeter retaining wall and we are preparing an area for a new viewing platform over the Bristol Channel. Whilst much of the costs associated with the new garden has been met by support in kind and contributions from our sub-contractors and supply chain, we have also been raising money through a number of initiatives within the company.
Probably the most successful fundraiser was the Cycle Challenge from Tŷ Hafan to Paris in July last year and, learning from the experience, we are embarking on a similar challenge next week, this time from Cardiff Castle to Edinburgh Castle. The challenge will involve over 20 cyclists riding just over 100 miles a day for four days with overnight stops at Tewkesbury, Preston, Carlisle and Edinburgh.
Like last year, every penny raised will be committed to the ‘Memorial Garden’ project and the next phase of construction will include the garden itself with new water features, a range of garden furniture, canopies and enchanted woodland and sensory features. We have set up a ‘Just Giving’ page for the challenge if you would like to ‘help grow the garden’.
