This week we’re talking walking! At this very moment, a group of Tŷ Hafan dads are scaling the heights of Snowdon in order to raise funds and awareness for the our charity. All the men are members of the Tŷ Hafan Dads’ group – a support network that formed back in 2008 for fathers of children who have used Tŷ Hafan now or in the past. They’re climbing five mountains in just 55 hours and they’ve already conquered Ben Nevis and Scarfell Pike. Next up – Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan. We’re routing for them.
Inspired by these incredible dads, we’re launching the Tŷ Hafan Summer Stroll. Throughout the month of August, we’re asking the community to ‘put your best foot forward and create a smile for every mile’. We’ll be providing ideas and suggestions for walking routes all over Wales, where families, individuals, organisations and groups can take a stroll over summer. All we’re asking is for our strollers to share their photos and videos of their walks over social media, and seek sponsorship to raise much needed funds for us.
Taking a stroll over our summer holidays is usually something that most of us take for granted. But as most people are packing their suitcases for their holidays, many Tŷ Hafan families are packing theirs to come to us at the hospice. Families just like Bridget and Elain James who are spearheading our summer fundraising campaign. Bridget says that for her family and the many others that Tŷ Hafan supports, “a Tŷ Hafan holiday means making memories and special moments that matter, and having time to properly switch off. It’s just the perfect family holiday”.
By getting sponsored and taking part in The Tŷ Hafan Summer Stroll, you are helping us to provide our families with some extra special treats to make their holiday with us truly magical. Keep an eye out for how you can make the most of your holidays- so that the families attending Ty Hafan can make the most of the time that they spend with us. But don’t just take our word for it. Take a look at this message from Phil Dennis, one of our fabulous supporters who’ already done a fundraising summer stroll for Tŷ Hafan. Phil walked from Bridget and Elain’s home town of Aberystwyth all the way to our hospice in Sully.
