research and news

The field of paediatric palliative care research is in its infancy compared to the substantial evidence base surrounding adult palliative care.

This means that the evidence to underpin practice is continually evolving, making this field of healthcare both challenging and dynamic.  The importance of research in hospices has been highlighted by the Help the Hospices Commission and indeed the appointment of a Lead Practitioner for Education and Research at Tŷ Hafan in November 2012 clearly signals that the organisation sees this as a priority.  The organisation has established links with universities throughout Wales and will be working on research projects in partnership with our academic colleagues.

We are extremely pleased to present our third issue of Insight – a platform for sharing experiences, ideas and evidence on best practice in paediatric palliative care.

This issue covers a wide spectrum of issues and many are relevant to other areas of practice. Topics include:

  • Withholding artificial nutrition and hydration at end–of–life
  • The decision–making process on compassionate extubation
