These are incredibly difficult times for us all. As ever, our priority is to our children and the families we support, our staff, volunteers and, of course, our supporters without whom none of this would be possible. From everyone at Tŷ Hafan we sincerely hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well.
The families supported by Tŷ Hafan are amongst the most vulnerable in Wales – right now they are at home shielding their children, to protect them from the risks associated with coronavirus. For them, it’s a very real and personal crisis. Parents are providing care for their child around the clock, whilst themselves being cut off from their normal network of support. Homes feel crowded with little opportunity to take a break; an already challenging daily life has become more difficult. Families are worried and fearful, and more than ever, they need our support.
Caring through the crisis.
Here at Tŷ Hafan, despite everything, the hospice remains open providing crisis and end of life care to families from across Wales. The care we provide will also ease the pressure on the NHS at this unpredictable time.
For our families in the community, we are always there – but now, in a different way. Our ‘virtual’ community hospice takes our care home, using video technology and social media to help families stay close to the teams and support networks they trust. They are able to provide play, music and complementary therapies. Parents, children and siblings can also receive face to face help from one of our specialist teams.
We’ve reached out to nearly all our families, past and present to offer practical and emotional support and we are always at the end of the phone 24 hours a day if needed.
Our families know that we are always there.
We’ve had to be creative, but we are still providing families with a vital lifeline, whilst they are caring for a life-limited child at home at this uncertain time. We are doing all we can to help families feel less alone and less frightened. We can only continue providing this vital support with your help.
