During a recent visit to Tŷ Hafan – the hospice for children in Wales – the charity’s ambassador Leigh Halfpenny helped with its Summer Raffle draw picking the first and second prize winners.
Leigh was astounded at the number of tickets entered into the draw and how many people had supported Tŷ Hafan with the Summer Raffle.
The top prize was won by Mathew Hurford of, Leckwith, Cardiff who commented that he’d “have to buy Leigh a pint” as a thank you.
At first, Mathew couldn’t believe he’d won. He said: “When I got the call I thought my friends were winding me up and had to ring back to check the call was genuine.”
With a baby on the way, Mathew had postponed work on his garden until next year but is looking forward to getting the work underway so his two other children can enjoy playing in it during the summer holidays.
The ten third prize winners were picked by Amie Sainsbury from Brynmawr whose three-year-old son, Callum, uses Tŷ Hafan’s services.
Tŷ Hafan raffles, which run twice a year, raise more than £100,000 annually. Look out for the 2015 Christmas raffle which will be landing on doormats at the end of September.
