my tŷ hafan work experience journey

My journey with Tŷ Hafan started with an exciting interview. The passion my interviewees had for the organisation was tangible. I just knew I had to seize the opportunity to be a part of this team. And what better a way to gain experience than through doing it for an organisation that is genuinely making such a difference in many people’s lives.

The entire team at Tŷ Hafan has been extremely welcoming and I must say that enjoying the sea views over my morning cup of coffee is definitely a perk of being based at the head office in Sully!

In preparation to joining the Retail Team for my role as market researcher, my first day included a visit to the Vintage Clothing Warehouse on Newport Road. A great start to ease me into my first week and to get a feel for the various aspects of retail.

The remainder of my time was spent working on two projects in the head office, situated just above the hospice. The hospice tour really struck a chord with me, I felt quite privileged to be a part of an organisation that is able to provide such a special place for families across Wales. Helping produce up-cycled products for the stores during lunch times has been a particularly enjoyable experience for me.

The support and encouragement from the team has made all the difference for me during my work placement. From starting off each day with a ‘pep talk’ to being included in meetings and to generally just being made to feel welcome and a valued member of the team. Every minute at Tŷ Hafan has been enjoyable so far and I hope my role is able to make a difference!
