principality plastics golf day proves a big hit

In the blazing July sunshine, we were joined by 19 teams from across Wales and beyond for a smashing day of golf, writes Hannah Barnard, Head of Operations at Principality Plastics.

We have supported Tŷ Hafan since our first golf day back in 2018, our now retired sales director Paul, had heard about and seen for himself their amazing work and decided as a company we should do something to support.

I have been tremendously lucky since then to have a tour of Tŷ Hafan and see the amazing work they do in person, and I have not thought about supporting anyone else since. It is honestly the most incredible place filled with so much love.

Our managing director John and now retired sales director Paul are keen golfers and back in 2018 we held our first charity golf day. It was that much of a success we have held the event every year since, except for from 2020 due to Covid, and our regulars were gutted. Due to the break in 2020 the uptake for this year’s golf day was amazing and our teams filled up within three days of the first email going out.

On the day we had 19 teams of four take part, comprising a mixture of Principality Plastics’ customers, suppliers and friends. Swish Building Products were our main sponsor, with additional sponsors being:

  • DL Chemicals
  • Hugh James Solicitors
  • Deeplas
  • Boniplas
  • Small Training Solutions
  • Saige
  • M.B.Distribution

The day would not have been so organised if it wasn’t for the help and support of my brilliant team at Principality. John, Damien and I get a lot of the credit, but we also have some amazing colleagues who help us.

We were very lucky because the day itself turned out to be hot, almost too hot – in fact most of our participants have asked me to turn the temperature down next year! But, that aside, it was a wonderful day filled with so many smiles, laughter and pure generosity.

Some teams played very well, others not so well (they blamed the heat), and Team Plastivan won the overall competition, with a brilliant score of 105. But everyone was just happy to be there and support a wonderful charity and I believe this was shown by the amount raised which was an amazing £5,000.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day, we have had amazing feedback and most have already popped their names down for next year. This is some of the feedback we have received about the day:

“Thank you all for a great day and for arranging the weather! Could we ask that you turn down the temperature a little next year but keep the unbroken sun. It was great to see everyone again and be part of such a great day. So pleased you have been able to raise so much for charity.” - Swish.

“It was a great day and all of our guests were very complimentary about the day and the organisation. Thank you to all of you for your hard work in making it such an enjoyable day. It’s also lovely to see how much money the day raised for such a wonderful charity. Thank you also for the score summary. It is good to see how we performed or perhaps in our case didn’t! Looking forward to my ice cream in the rain next year!” - Hugh James Solicitors

“Thanks for a great day, boys enjoyed it, looking forward to next year.” - Point 5

“Well done Hannah, good feedback from my guests. Many thanks to all for the day.” - Wright Glass

“Just a quick thank you and your team for a brilliant day yesterday, we all really enjoyed it.” - Wavenet

“Many thanks a fantastic day as ever, hope that you raised loads for a great charity. See you next year.” - NFU.
