We’ve all visited beaches and thought they could have been a bit cleaner – and thanks to the Sully 1st Scouts, the coastline between Lavernock and Swanbridge will be looking extra spick and span very soon.
Scouts, Beavers and Cubs from the unit, as well as their leaders, will all be joining in the afternoon litter-pick along that stretch of the beach, in a bid to fundraise and do their bit for the environment at the same time.
Ben Lepley, one of the leaders, says: “The Sully 1st Scout Group is a community-run organisation based in Sully and part of the worldwide Scouting movement. A big part of Scouting is community and charity work – particularly focused on local areas and local people.
“Tŷ Hafan is an obvious choice for us to raise money and awareness for because of its location nearby and the nature of the work with young people.
“Our group has three sections – Beavers (for 6 to 8 year olds), Cubs (8 to 10 year olds) and Scouts (10 to 14 year olds ) – all of whom are of the age that Tŷ Hafan provides care and support for.
“We are inspired by the amazing work Tŷ Hafan does providing care and a fun environment for children along with giving their carers some well-deserved rest.”
Ben adds: “The Beaver Scouts promise is: ‘I promise to do my best to be kind and helpful and to love our world.’
“So to help meet all of those promises we will be undertaking this litter pick along Sully’s coastline on 7 May. We are passionate about environmental protection and raising awareness of environmental issues so we are cleaning our beautiful beaches.
“The litter pick not only helps to remove pollution to protect plants and animals but also helps the group to feel more connected to their local environment along with helping raise money for local children in need.
“We would appreciate any help spreading the word about our litter pick to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful charity.”
We say, “Thank you Sully 1st Scouts – we so appreciate what you are doing and we can’t wait to see our beautiful beaches looking super-clean as well as learning how much money you raise for us!”
