There will be a kit check at registration to ensure that you have all of the required listed items. Please remember this is done for your safety.

Cycle helmets are compulsory throughout the cycling element of the event and you will not be allowed to start the event if you are not wearing a helmet.

If you are taking part in the hiking element of the event at Pen Y Fan walking boots are compulsory.

Please do not bring your sponsorship money with you on the day, more information on paying in your sponsorship can be found in your fundraising pack.

Is this event a guided cycle/walk?

There is a set route for the cycling element of the event which will be marked by yellow signage along the route. You will be sent a map prior to the event to familiarise yourself with the route. There will also be cycle marshals along the route and a support vehicle.

The hike up Pen Y Fan will be marshalled to for safety purposes however, this is not a guided walk and you will need map reading skills to complete the challenge.

What route are we taking to Pen Y Fan?

We are taking you on what we think is possibly the most dramatic way to get to the top of Pen Y Fan. You will be entering the beacon via the back door, Cwm Gwdi – this energetic walk is one of the less familiar routes however is the toughest walking route in the Brecon Beacons! This is what makes Tread & Trail an epic challenge!

You will cycle to the Cwm Gwdi car park and begin your hike here

  • Length: 4.6 miles
  • Start and finish: Cwm Gwdi car park
  • OS map ref:SO 024247
  • OS map:OL12 Explorer (1:25 000 series)

Please note this is not the Storey Arms or Pont ar Daf car park route.

How do I get my walking boots to Pen Y Fan?

You will have a specific kit list for the hike element of this event. This will need to be in a small backpack no bigger than a 20 litre hold. Remember your backpack needs to have a waterproof liner.

You will be required to hand this in at registration in Brecon Leisure Centre - this will be tagged with your participant ID number and full name. Please note we will be doing a kit check at registration - this is to ensure you have the essential items on the kit list and is for your safety. Your backpack will be waiting when you reach Pen Y Fan and you will exchange your helmet and cycling shoes for your backpack which you would have put your walking boots inside.

Once you have completed the climb - you will hand your backpack back with your walking boots inside. These will be delivered back to Brecon Leisure Centre.

Facility Information

Brecon Leisure Centre is based just on the outskirts of the beautiful town of Brecon with sensational views around it. They have a cafe if you fancy something to eat before the event.

There are toilet facilities within Brecon Leisure Centre and in Cwm Gwdi car park. There will also be a catering vehicle at Cwm Gwdi car park which will provide you with a hot meal - a fantastic vegetable soup to get you re-energised for the final leg of the challenge!

Sponsorship

There are two entry options for this event, a sponsorship ask and a non-sponsorship ask. (Please note the non-sponsorship ask is limited to only 50 spaces).

Your entry fee only covers the cost of the event and we have asked that participants aim to raise £75 in sponsorship. However no amount is too small (or too large) and we warmly welcome any amount you raise!

A fundraising pack is available to download on the website and will also be posted to you. The pack contains all the information about the day along with your bespoke sponsorship form.

£25 could pay for an hour of emotional support from a family support worker, helping families to deal with the daily challenges they face.
