welsh 3 peaks

Is the GE Aviation Wales Welsh3peaks Challenge a race?

No, the challenge is NOT a race. The challenge is to raise in excess of £800 for Tŷ Hafan by successfully climbing all three peaks in one day. Please note that cut off times apply and these are detailed in your briefing pack.

Is the GE Aviation Wales Welsh3peaks Challenge a guided walk?

No, you will need map reading skills to complete the challenge. We provide marshal points and support throughout the event, however they are there to provide safety support and not guide you, therefore you will need map reading skills.

What happens if a team member drops out at the last minute?

A full team of four walkers must commence the challenge in Snowdon. A team of less than four members cannot start the event, but every effort will be made to attach them to another team so they can commence the event.

Please inform the Tŷ Hafan events team of any team changes in the run up to the event. Last minute team changes can be made at registration in Snowdon on the Friday before the event

Why do we start the challenge at Snowdon and not Pen Y Fan?

The event route is set out as Snowdon first, then Cadair Idris and finally Pen Y Fan due to safety issues. For this reason we climb Snowdon first as it would be dangerous to leave the hardest mountain (Snowdon) until the end of the day when participants are tired.

Will the event go ahead in bad weather?

If the situation arises that we are unlucky enough to get weather that would make the climb dangerous for participants, the organiser may have to make the decision to alter the route, this will be decided the afternoon before the event starts. We have only ever experienced one mountain closure in 16 years due to severe weather conditions, however there is an alternative route available at Snowdon and Cadair Idris is case this happens again.

Can the routes taken on each mountain be altered?

No, you must take the routes outlined in the briefing pack. For safety reasons you must follow the marshalled route.

Can the team driver join us up one of the mountains?

No, the driver has a responsibility to transport the teams safely between mountains.

Fundraising with Just Giving

Online fundraising is a great way to raise sponsorship. Your team can all fundraise through one fundraising page, just make sure that you include all of your team member's names so that we can attribute the sponsorship to each person.

When you set up an online fundraising page at www.justgiving.com search for 'Tŷ Hafan Welsh 3 Peaks challenge 2019' which will link your page to the event.

The funds from Just Giving automatically come through to Tŷ Hafan, so once you have set up your page and share it with friends and colleagues, you don't have to do anything else.
