Expressions of Interest
Since January 1999 Tŷ Hafan has provided free of charge specialist palliative care services to children with life limited conditions, and their families, throughout Wales.
Tŷ Hafan’s vision is “A Wales where all children who may die in childhood live a fulfilling family life”. Our mission is to offer a high standard of free care to children in Wales who may die in childhood in order to enrich their quality of life and support their families during life, at end of life and through bereavement. We seek to achieve this through delivery of our strategic objectives.
Our care services are centred around our hospice, located in a tranquil location by the sea to the west of Sully in the Vale of Glamorgan, and extend into the community, in the home, in hospital - wherever we are needed to support the 260+ children and families currently in our care.
Funded primarily by the generosity of the people of Wales through charitable donations, fundraising activities and events, a retail chain and a membership lottery, we also receive some support from local health boards with whom we partner to ensure a holistic care experience. We also rely heavily on our network of over 600 volunteers, without whom we could not do what we do every day.
Tŷ Hafan has a robust governance structure, reflecting the diversity of the organisation. Currently, nine Trustees support us on a non executive basis in discharging the Board’s responsibilities and supporting the Executive to ensure effective running of the charity in the best interests of the beneficiaries. Each Trustee plays an engaged role, volunteering his/her time and support freely, contributing the benefit of his/her professional expertise and experience and collaborating to protect and develop the charity in a heavily regulated environment.
As we seek to augment the skillset of our Board, we are inviting expressions of interest from individuals with relevant nursing and medical backgrounds, experience in legal/corporate governance, fundraising and/or engineering/estates to join our Board of Trustees.
If you feel that you have the time and desire to join our team and contribute to continuing the work we feel passionate about at Tŷ Hafan, we would love to hear from you. Joining our Trustee Board requires a commitment averaging two to three days per month, with meetings typically held during the day at the hospice, or our offices in Sully.
If you’d like to discuss the role informally or require further information, in the first instance, please contact Susan Sullivan by telephone on 029 2053 2247, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Individuals wishing to formally express an interest should write to:
Maria Timon Samra, Chair of the Board at Hayes Road, Sully CF64 5XX, or email email@example.com, by Sunday 7 August 2016, outlining your experience, skills, and availability to meet the commitments of this post. Note that the interview process will be conducted in September.
Tŷ Hafan is committed to developing, maintaining and supporting a culture of equality and diversity in which employees, workers, volunteers, service users and members of the public are treated equitably and with dignity and respect; opposing all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination. Subsequently, all applicants will receive fair and equitable treatment and will be considered solely on their ability and suitability to carry out the role.
