Aimee Wellington is fearless. On 4th June, she plummeted 15,000 ft through the skies with one goal in mind: to raise money for Tŷ Hafan.

You can find out how her skydive went and see photos on her Instagram account (spoiler alert: she did fantastically!), but today, Aimee is sharing her touching story with us, including why Tŷ Hafan means so much to her family.

“This weekend, I’m throwing myself out of a plane at 15,000 ft above the Earth. No big deal…she says, barely able to type because her fingers are so sweaty with anticipation,” says Aimee.

“When my nephew was three years old, he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – a life-limiting muscle-wasting disease that has permanently confined him to a wheelchair.

You never expect that one day your family might need to turn to a charity like Tŷ Hafan. It feels like something that happens to other people. You never want to imagine that kind of thing could happen to one of your loved ones.

“But Tŷ Hafan has been a huge blessing to our family over the years. My nephew has savoured every moment spent with the incredible staff in a place where he’s totally accommodated for.

“He’s never had to worry about being treated differently or panic about whether the space is suitable for his wheelchair. He’s just been able to have fun and what more could you ask for for a little boy?

“Last month, my nephew turned 18 and officially aged out of Tŷ Hafan’s outstanding facility. So now seems like the perfect time to give back to the place that poured happiness back into our family when we were at our lowest.

“On Sunday the 4th of June, I’ll be skydiving at Swansea Airport to raise money for Tŷ Hafan. Some people think I’m insane (and I’m not saying they’re wrong!), but it seems like a small way to show my appreciation for the enormous impact Tŷ Hafan has had on my nephew and our family.

“If being a little crazy helps raise money so other children can experience the fun, laughter, and sense of security that Tŷ Hafan provides, then it’s well worth it!”

Wow, Amy. You’re amazing. Thank you for sharing your inspiring story with us and thank you for your generosity.

Aimee has raised more than £600 for Tŷ Hafan so far, and donations are still coming in. To donate to Aimee’s Gofundme page, click here
