Volunteer for Tŷ Hafan

At Tŷ Hafan, there are many ways you can support our life-changing services as a volunteer.

From working in one of our shops, to helping out in our crafty workshop, to helping out at Ty Hafan events or directly supporting our families, find out how you can volunteer today.

Working at Ty Hafan has helped me a great deal with my anxiety to the extent that I no longer receive counselling. I work with a great bunch of people who accepted me for who I am. The staff who I have met are welcoming and so friendly. Volunteering at Ty Hafan is so peaceful and tranquil that I forget where I am, plus the feedback you get back from staff and visitors is overwhelming.

- Darren, Gardening Volunteer

How to become a volunteer

Becoming one of our brilliant volunteers is super simple and doesn’t take long at all. All you need to do is follow these four steps.

Find a role

Take a look at our current vacancies and choose a role you’re interested in. Don’t forget, you can select more than one role if you wish to.

Complete your application

Fill in the online form linked to the roles you’re interested in. This typically should take you about five minutes and be straightforward.

Have a chat with us

After we’ve looked at your application, we’ll get in touch and talk in more detail about the role you’ve applied for and anything else we need from you.

Start volunteering

Once we’re happy with any extra information we’ve requested, and you’re happy to start your role, your volunteering journey can begin. Hoorah!

Ways to volunteer

There are a huge range of ways you can volunteer for Tŷ Hafan to help make a short life a full life. And it really doesn’t matter how much time you give. Every hour is precious and gratefully received.

Retail volunteer

We have a range of roles at our Tŷ Hafan shops across Wales. These include retail assistants who serve customers, as well as volunteers who sort through donations, stock shelves and create window displays.

Head office volunteer

At our welcoming head office in Sully, you can develop new skills and gain valuable work experience. Voluntary roles we offer include receptionist, office administrator, lottery assistant and crafts volunteer.

Community volunteer

From managing collection boxes in your local area, to picking up and delivering furniture to our shops, to helping out at one of our great events, we have many great community volunteer roles to choose from.

Volunteer as a business

We can create bespoke volunteering projects that use your team’s skills and experience, or your employees can get involved in more regular volunteering activities, such as our Charity Shop Challenge.

However, your staff members volunteer, we promise they’ll have a rewarding time, learn some new skills and feel more connected to each other because of their Tŷ Hafan experience.

Hospice volunteer

As well as working with children as a play worker, you can volunteer at our hospice in a number of other ways. These include tending to our beautiful gardens, working in our kitchen and maintaining our hospice building.

Family support volunteering

Volunteering in one of our Family Support Volunteer roles is a rewarding and flexible way to provide practical support to families in their own environment. You will be matched with a family based on your skills, availability and location, and you will receive comprehensive training as well as ongoing supervision from our experienced staff.

Become a Tŷ Hafan ambassador

Our volunteer ambassadors play a crucial role in raising awareness of Tŷ Hafan’s life-changing services and attracting new people to support our vital work.

If this is something you’d be interested in doing in your community, we’d love to hear from you. We can then tell you more about this exciting role, the training you’ll receive, and how we’ll support you every step of the way.
