Our Patron

We are delighted that HRH The Princess of Wales has become Patron of Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice.

The Duchess of Cambridge Patron of Ty Hafan

The announcement was made as part of a visit to our hospice in Sully on Thursday 30 January when we welcomed HRH The Princess of Wales to Tŷ Hafan for the first time.

During her visit, The Princess spent time with children receiving care at the hospice as well as their families. Her Royal Highness also joined in a ‘stay and play’ session which saw children enjoy meaningful play and activities alongside their care.

Her Royal Highness also met with bereaved families, Emily and James Taylor from Caerphilly, and Anton Griffiths and partner Candice Jones from Llanelli, who were supported by Tŷ Hafan throughout their children’s lives, deaths and beyond.

Concluding her visit The Princess had her handprint taken which will join the handprints of hundreds of children with life-shortening conditions and their families supported by Tŷ Hafan to date.

Irfon Rees, Chief Executive of Tŷ Hafan, said: “We are deeply honoured that Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales has become Patron of Tŷ Hafan and it was an absolute pleasure to welcome Her Royal Highness to our hospice for the first time today.

“As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will be an inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers and everyone who so generously supports us.

“No parent ever imagines that their child’s life will be short. Sadly this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales. We can’t stop this happening, but together we can make sure that no one lives their child’s short life alone.”

We are now looking forward to further opportunities to engage with The Princess of Wales as our Patron.
