Last week, we were lucky enough to welcome Leif Thobroe, Regional Partnership Senior Officer at Disability Sport Wales, to speak with everyone at Youth Club.
Keen sportsman Leif is a former rugby player who lost the use of his right arm due to a spinal injury while playing. Not wanting to give up sports, he fell in love with Taekwondo and went on to represent Team GB in Para-taekwondo.
Through an inspiring talk and some impressive demos of Boccia and Curling – both adapted so that everybody could have a go – Leif showed our young people that sport can be for everyone and that there’s a whole world of ways to get active and try something new.
Sophie Knapp, our Transition Nurse, shared, “This is the first event that Samantha, our Transition Support Worker, has organised since she started with us and it was fantastic.
“It’s great to see our transition services growing, with other providers coming in to share more about all the inclusive activities available to our young people and encouraging them to take part.
“It was inspirational to hear from Leif, who’s not only overcome his own challenges, but he’s done something amazing by showing others that they can do the same.”
Thank you so much to everyone who came along, and of course, Leif, for taking the time to visit us!
