Why do I need a will?
A will is the only way to ensure your wishes are honoured after you die. Even if you already have a will, a change in your circumstances may mean you need to update it to ensure that loved ones are provided for in the way you want.
How do I make a will?
We recommend you seek independent legal advice when you prepare your will to ensure there are no complications when your estate is being executed. To find your nearest solicitor, we suggest you visit the Law Society’s website. We also offer a free will writing service.
Can I write my own will?
As a will is a legal document, we highly recommend that you write or amend your will through a qualified solicitor or will writer. Please take a look at our free will writing offers
Does TÅ· Hafan pay for its free will offer and why?
We always carefully consider how we spend our money and the potential income our expenditure may generate. With regards to free will services, we have fixed fees for services agreed with the National Free Wills Network. These fees pay for supporters to write or amend a simple will or pair of simple wills. In return, TÅ· Hafan may receive much-needed gifts to fund our life-changing services. Please note that if your will is complex, you may need to pay an extra cost. This is something your will writing service provider or solicitor will discuss with you.
Why should I help later rather than now?

We truly appreciate all the support we receive. We know there will be more families to help in the future and gifts left in people’s wills help to protect the longevity of our care for many years to come.

I already have a will. How do I update it?
If you already have a will but would like to change it to include a gift to TÅ· Hafan, you may be able to update it using a codicil. A codicil is an addition or supplement to your will that revokes or modifies part or all of it. The codicil should be kept with your will at all times. We always recommend that you speak to a solicitor when changing your will.
How will my gift to TÅ· Hafan be used?
Tŷ Hafan is the leading charity in Wales providing care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Today, gifts left in wills fund 25% of the care and support we provide. Your gift, no matter how big or small, will truly help to make a short life a full life. Without these precious gifts, we simply couldn’t support as many children and families as we do.
What type of gift can I leave?
The main types of gift you can include in your will to TÅ· Hafan are: A share of your estate – After you’ve provided for your family and friends, you can leave the remainder of your estate to support our vital services. This is called a residuary gift. An inflation protected cash gift – This is a specific amount of money linked to the index of retail prices. This means any amount pledged would keep its value in line with any possible inflation increases. This is called an index-linked pecuniary gift. A cash gift – You can specify the exact amount of money you’d like to give. This is called a pecuniary gift. A specific gift – You can state in your will that you’d like to leave a specific item in your will to TÅ· Hafan, for example, a piece of jewellery.
Do I have enough to leave a gift?
Absolutely. We appreciate all gifts, however large or small. And every pound we receive will make a difference to the lives of children with life-limiting conditions and their families, right here in Wales.
Can I leave the contents of my house to TÅ· Hafan?
Yes. We can sell a variety of items in our shops. If your belongings are particularly valuable, we may decide to sell them at auction so they’re sold for the best possible price. If you do have valuable belongings that you wish to leave to Tŷ Hafan, it would be helpful to specifically mention them in your will.
Should I let TÅ· Hafan know if I include a gift in my will?

A gift in your will to TÅ· Hafan is exempt from inheritance tax. Also, in some circumstances, your gift may help to reduce the overall amount of tax paid on your estate. This means your other beneficiaries may receive more. We always recommend you discuss inheritance tax and other matters concerning your will with your will writing service provider or solicitor.
Can TÅ· Hafan act as an executor?
We are unable to act as an executor for your estate. You don’t need to appoint your solicitor to act as your executor, as family members or friends can take on this role. It’s recommended you appoint at least two executors and speak to your proposed executors to ensure they’re happy to take on this role.
