All participants should be aware that training is essential to achieve the basic fitness level required to complete this challenge safely, without injury.

To increase your fitness level in preparation for the challenge, we recommend that you steadily build up to regular exercise regimes in your preferred disciplines:

Jogging is a form of running at a slow or leisurely pace. Jogging regularly can increase your fitness level whilst placing less stress on your body than running.

Try to build up to 30-40 minutes jogging three times a week.

Regular swimming is great for building cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance whilst placing minimal strain on muscles.

Try to build up to 30 minutes swimming two to three times a week

Cycling is a practical aerobic activity that could be built in to your normal daily routine. Regular cycling builds muscular fitness as well as improving stamina

Try to build up to 30-60 minutes cycling two to three times a week – you may like to try cycling to work or to the shops!

Walking is also an activity that could be built in to your normal daily routine. Take the stairs instead of a lift or introduce an evening walk to your lifestyle.

Try to build up to 60-90 minutes brisk walking during the week, and three to five hours at weekends

Try to practice your walking on a mountain terrain in the lead up to the event. The Brecon Beacons provide an ideal platform to experience the environments that you will face during the challenge.

GE Volunteers operate across the globe running a huge array of charitable events and community activities. Volunteerism is an essential element of the GE culture. As part of our wider Corporate Social Responsibility programme, our volunteering impacts on social issues directly relating to our core business and the community we operate in. We focus on three key areas, building our communities, education and young people.

For GE Aerospace Wales, the Welsh 3 Peaks is the highlight of the volunteering calendar. The event began in 1998 and is now in its 25th year. It was the idea of a group of GE Aerospace employees after they had competed in the National Three Peaks challenge event. Paul Shepherd, headed up the group and was the driving force behind the first Welsh Three Peaks Challenge event. Few of the original organising team are still involved with the event but with new volunteers coming in each year the event remains as strong as ever. Over 1,600 employees have volunteered their time to marshal and provide that all-important encouragement to participants. GE Aerospace has also entered teams each year, helping to raise money for TĹ· Hafan.

GE Aerospace Wales is based in Nantgarw, just north of Cardiff, Wales. Recent volunteering projects have included building an outdoor classroom for Ysgol Evan James, an outdoor play and seating area in the Waun Wen community and maths mentoring in local schools across South Wales.

At GE Aerospace Wales we have a vision, but we also have the drive, the commitment and the skills to make it happen.
