Gather your friends, family and colleagues and join us in celebrating the coronation, all while raising money for Tŷ Hafan!

The coronation is taking place on Saturday 6th May at Westminster Abbey and people all over the country – and world – are going to be celebrating during the coronation weekend and beyond.

With the former Prince of Wales being our patron, we’re very excited to be joining in with the celebrations at our hospice!

To mark this historic day (or just have a bit of fun and quality time with your nearest and dearest), we’re inviting you to raise a cup to our new King by having your own Tea for Tŷ Hafan tea party.

What is Tea for Tŷ Hafan?

Between 29th April and 13th May, you can host your own tea party with your friends, family, colleagues or local community and donate the proceeds from tickets, food and drink and activities to Tŷ Hafan.

Every penny you raise though your fundraising event will go towards our mission to make short lives full lives and provide comfort, care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their families – whenever they need it and for however long they need it.

(Don’t worry if you can’t host your tea party between 29th April and 13th May. Just let us know when your party will be, and we’ll make sure you still get your tea party pack.)

Your free tea party pack

When you sign up (click here to sign up!), you’ll get a free tea party pack sent to you in the post. You can also sign up by emailing supportercare@tyhafan.org directly.

Everything in the tea party pack, including Tŷ Hafan cake toppers, has been specially designed to add some extra sparkle to your coronation celebrations.

To make sure your pack arrives in time, we recommend you sign up before 21st April.

How to host a tea party

Hosting a fundraising tea party is simple. It can be as big or small as you like. You can choose to have a classic British afternoon tea party or put your own spin on the event. Below are some of the elements you might want to consider when you’re planning your tea party ideas.

Drinks

Just like it says on the tin, traditional tea parties serve tea – English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Black Tea, Oolong or whichever types of tea you and your guests prefer. But you don’t just have to serve tea! You might also like to serve coffee, water, squash and fizzy drinks such as cola or lemonade.

Food

Cakes, scones and sandwiches make up the quintessential tea party spread. But you can also put out pastries, crisps and popcorn, or serve something completely untraditional like burgers or pizza.

‘Potluck parties’ are great if you have lots of guests. This is where every guest brings a dish or a food or drink item with them to share with the rest of the party. Hosting a potluck tea party will take the pressure of cooking, baking or shopping for everyone from your shoulders.

Tip: It’s always a good idea to ask ahead of time if your guests have any dietary requirements.

Decorations

If you’re hosting a coronation-themed tea party, consider adding a few decorations to your space that nod to the King or the country to make it extra special.

Like we mentioned above, when you sign up, we’ll send you Tea for Tŷ Hafan tea party supplies through the post that you can use to decorate your party and we have downloadable bunting, posters and invitations available on our website.

Location

Fundraising tea parties are great in homes and gardens, local village halls, local pubs and cafés and workplaces. We particularly love this as a fundraising idea for schools, colleges and universities that want to host a coronation party for a good cause.

Tip: Wherever you host your tea party, make sure that it’s accessible for all of your guests.

Fundraising

When it comes to fundraising, the world is your tea pot! Here are just a handful of the fundraising ideas you can use for your party…

  • Ask your guests to donate to Tŷ Hafan when they arrive
  • Set up a box for donations
  • Set up a raffle or auction with prizes such as books, homemade items or vouchers
  • Have a competition to see who can come up with the best costume
  • Hold a bake sale.

However you choose to raise money, our lovely Supporter Care Team will be there to help you with anything you need, from tips for fundraising to information about Gift Aid and everything in between.

Supporting Tŷ Hafan

When you raise funds for Tŷ Hafan, you’ll be supporting families in Wales who need expert care.

Tŷ Hafan is a children’s hospice in south Wales. Since 1999, we’ve been an essential lifeline for 1,019 children with life-shortening conditions and their families.

With the help of the very generous people who support us, we’re able to continue our essential work, giving children and families the care and comfort they need during truly difficult times.

Good luck with your tea party and we look forward to seeing the results of your fundraising efforts!
