A growing need for your support

Already, gifts in Wills are absolutely vital to our services. They fund 25% of the care we provide to children with life-shortening conditions.

But looking to the future, these special gifts are going to become even more critical to us and the families we help. That’s because due to advances in treatment and care, we expect more children who are born with or develop a life-shortening condition to live longer and need our specialist support.

So, please do consider including a gift in your Will to Tŷ Hafan. It truly is a rewarding way to support children and families at our hospice, 10, 20, even 50 years from now.

The difference your gift can make

After providing for your loved ones, there are a variety of ways you can choose to leave a gift to charity in your Will.

A share of your estate

This is also known as a ‘residuary gift’ and is a percentage of your estate, which includes any property you own. A residuary gift means that the amount gifted to charity is protected by inflation.

A cash gift

This is also known as a ‘pecuniary gift’ which is a fixed amount of money, or you can leave an ‘index-linked pecuniary gift’ which is a fixed amount of money linked to the index of retail prices. This means any amount pledged would keep its value in line with any possible inflation increases.

A specific gift

This is a named item such as a house, jewellery, antiques or shares.

1% of the average estate value could pay for over two years supply of oxygen used at the hospice.

2.5% of the average estate value could pay for a specialist adaptable cot which keeps children safe, secure and comfortable, accommodating ventilation machines and feeding tubes.

3% of the average estate value could pay for a whole day of expert medical care and support at our hospice for several families.

5% of the average estate value could pay for one and a half days of expert medical care and support at our hospice. This includes all medical supplies, equipment, expert staff and therapy costs in the hospice and community.

10% of the average estate value* could pay for a Tŷ Hafan nurse to provide specialist paediatric palliative care to a family for an entire year.

*Based on the average estate value in Wales published by Smee & Ford Legacy Insight Analysists in 2023.

Recently, I amended my Will and Tŷ Hafan was a definite choice to be included. I know donations via Wills are important to charities, and I am pleased to be able to feel that I can leave a legacy to Tŷ Hafan. Keep up the brilliant work!

It’s lovely to know that Tŷ Hafan will benefit from some of what we leave behind, because you can’t take it with you, can you?”

“I’d encourage anyone to leave something to Tŷ Hafan. As Michele said, you can’t take it with you. Tŷ Hafan’s work is so important, but they need help and they need support. The thought that you’ll still be able to make a difference when you’re gone; well, there’s nothing better I don’t think.”
