Dark Run Ty Hafan Event

What is the Dark Run?

The Dark Run is a brand new series of fun runs in support of Tŷ Hafan this autumn! As the nights draw in, we’re lighting up some of Wales’ most loved destinations for a glowing experience.

Each family-friendly Dark Run route is around 2.5 kilometres and this year’s locations are:

Barry Island

This Dark Run route starts as you go under the Eastern and Western shelters which will be lit up specially for this event, and you can expect music and entertainment along the way.

Swansea Bay

This epic 3.5k fun run starts behind the Civic Centre and takes you towards the Maritime Quarter. The route then loops back to the promenade and all the way to the Secret Beach Bar and Kitchen, before taking you back to your starting point.

Cyfarthfa Castle

This epic 2.5k spooky fun run starts in the castle grounds, giving you stunning views of the lake. Then, you’ll go to the gardens and wooden country park, where there will be spooky surprises awaiting you. But don’t fret – they won’t be too scary for the little ones!

Caldicot Castle

The route begins by heading out to the gardens and wooden country park, where a spooky surprise will be waiting for you. But don’t fret – it won’t be too scary for the little ones!

Each route will be lit up in a variety of colors, and there will be music and spooky surprises along the way.

This is a fantastic event for families of all ages, groups of friends and colleagues and solo runners.

Halloween themed or brightly coloured fancy dress is optional… but strongly encouraged! The person wearing the best costume will win a prize.

On the day

The event village opens 45 minutes before the fun run begins

We’ll give you a glowstick and bottle of water at registration, and then you’ll head over to the stage area for a warmup

When you finish the route, you’ll be greeted with a bespoke glow-in-the-dark medal and a goody bag

The timings of each event are different, so please check your chosen location below.

The Dark Run

Entry fees

Adults: £10.00

Children (under 16): £5.00

Every child must be accompanied by a participating adult. Each adult can accompany a maximum of three children.

Fundraising

The best part is that your fun run will change lives.

Your entry fees and sponsorship money will help children and families across Wales who need support through the challenges of life-shortening conditions, end-of-life care and bereavement.

There’s no minimum sponsorship that you have to raise to take part, and every £1 raised will be match-funded by the Principality Building Society. That means if you’re sponsored £5.00, Principality will donate £5.00 to make your total donation £10.00!
